FAKE K98K MIDDLE BAND NUMBERS
The faker is not usually able to file or sand the old numbers off a complex surface like this without making it obvious what has happened, so he has resorted once again to heavy strikes making the numbers much wider and fuller than would normally be the case. German depots never struck numbers on top of numbers---they crossed them out and struck the new number in a clean area. Ocasionally at the factory a number will be overstruck, but this looks quite different from what you see here. Also, note the cold Blue and touch up polishing with emery paper. Number dies are US made.
